Announcement: New Edition of Writers in the Schools Anthology: CAMBIA
The Cabin's WRITERS IN THE SCHOOLS (WITS) PROGRAM touches the lives of many young people each year, due to the talents of writers, the generosity of funders, and the gifts of many community friends. We are so excited to have a new edition of Cambia coming out this year! We are busy editing and getting the anthology ready for publication this month. We would like to invite you to our annual WRITERS IN THE SCHOOLS reading, which will be held May 7 at 7:00 pm in the Library Auditorium. This is our opportunity to honor and support all the young writers who participated in this year's WITS program and we hope to see you there! If you have questions, give us a call at 208.331.8000.

A River Runs Through a Valley
Masala, Marian Pritchett School WITS Spring 2011 Some things you cannot hang on the back of a chair, or a hook on the wall. But I see them just the same. They are running through me like a river runs through a valley. I wear determination, every day I wear my faith, I put strength on like a boxer puts on his boxing gloves, I wear my background in bright, soft colors that wrap my heart. |
Lessons
Olivia Fowler, Les Bois Jr. High School WITS Spring 2011 As the deep blue sky teaches the peregrine falcon to fly high, the Rocky Mountains teach the pine trees to grow higher. As any tree teaches its red, orange and green leaves, if you want to grow tall, you must fall. As the wolf teaches the husky how to howl to the moon, the moon teaches the millions of stars how to glow. As my stepmom teaches my dad, my dad teaches my sister, and I, I learn from everything that surrounds me. As the first snow teaches the wild strawberries how to make you smile, as a light rain teaches a fresh water stream how to glisten some more, the ocean mist teaches the fresh spring day breeze how to blow against your face just right. That's how I learned to write. |
Ode to Hellen Keller
Angel Morales, Work and Learn High School
WITS Spring 2008
I am without sight
But your shadow cools me against the sun
I am without ears
But I sense when whispers pass
I am without sound
But I can feel your love when I mumble my stutters
I, you still gone, I always read your letters
My smile says more but not enough
I like to hear remarks
When I feel my way out
Enjoy the blue clouds, yellow laughter
Pink smiles when rain is so many things.
